Readability

R1 Unreadable
R2 Barely readable, occasional words distinguishable
R3 Readable with considerable difficulty
R4 Readable with practically no difficulty
R5 Perfectly readable

Signal Strength

S1 Faint, signals barely perceptible
S2 Very weak signals
S3 Weak signals
S4 Fair signals
S5 Fairly good signals
S7 Moderately strong signals
S8 Strong signals
S9 Extremly strong signals

Tone (used in CW reporting)

1 - AC hum, very loud and broad
2 - Very rugh ac, very harsh and broad
3 - Rough ac tone, rectified but not filtered
4 - Rough note, some trace of filtering
5 - Filtered rectified ac but strong ripple modulated
6 - Filtered tonem definite trace of ripple modlation
7 - Near pure tone, trace of ripple modulation
8 - near perfect tone, slight trace of modulation
9 - Perfect tone, no trace of ripple or modulation of any kind
