MARTS web page Motto
Welcome to MARTS, the national organization representing the interests of amateur radio (ham) operators in Malaysia since 1952.
MARTS is devoted to providing valuable programs to serve the ham community, whether those served are Malaysian Amateur Radio Transmitters' Society members or not, prospective hams, or old timers.
=====================================
The above lines were taken from MARTS website today.
Its funny, normally a Society/Association or Club, is to take
care of its members interest primarily, and then if time and
funding permits, to assist others who are in the same hobby
but who are not members. If you don't believe me..click
on the title link above!
But here we have a Society that is looking after people who
are not members in benefit..not paying any dues!
If this is the case..then we all need not be MARTS members!
But we still can use all MARTS facilities..
Lets see..RM50 per year..can buy a lot of Char Kuih Tiow!

Using MARTS Repeaters lah bang...unless you are not a MCMC Licenced Amateur? Why..you are using the Taxi repeaters?
Ha..hah..

Hi Brother,
There are many approaches to get members. This is a soft approach Come with us, mingle with, use our facilities then join us. So nothing very wrong about this.
Kasi chance lah Encik.
Anyway if one have been hogging the MARTS repeater, please join us. It cost money to maintain repeaters.
You cannot take a free ride all the time

For your info..I am already a MARTS
member..are you in or out?
Just trying to get the priorities
right. Members should come first..like getting the membership cards, payment receipts, AGM minutes..this is normally the items the "members" should get first..not through 3rd party network..

Hai Ya,
You got me wrong.I said this is a soft approach.Just like getting married. You get to know the girl, her family and then propose if you are happy with your choice. You see a girl and you do not propose atraight away without knowing her background. However you also do not take advantage and date her forever.Hari hari hantam kahwin tak mau.

You must be from the "old" schhol of thought..age included!
Many ada test drive your wife before getting married?
Even some folks that i know..got married even without knowing each other..satu dari bandar..yang isteri-nya dari kampong..did not have any problem wz their marriage.
So therefore..look after MARTS members first..then, and only after then, can you think of looking after the others in the same hobby!

In the last one year, Marts members been washing dirty linen in public about Marts council/comittee. That, I think giving out a bad publicity to Marts. Do u think anybody would put a RM50 in an unstable society?

Hello,
You said non MARTS members cannot use MARTS facilities eg repeaters etc.MARTS must take care of its members first.
I saw in martsnews blogspot, non member helping in tuning the duplexer in Ulu Kali.
This is Ok for you ha ?
Come on OM give and take lah. After all this is only a hobby maa .
By Anonymous, at 8:50 PM
YM..(I never said I am an OM - you said it)
As far as using other people's facility..try using SARCC frequency nn see..if you are not a member..they will tell you not to use it!
SO is MARTS supposed to bend the rules for non-members?
How do you know that a non member of MARTS helped in "tuning" the duplexer in Ulu Kali? Unless you were the non-member?
Associations/Societies/Unions..theyare all meant to be for "members"
only..
Try getting to use the facilities of The Royal Selangor Golf club, without being a member! Nak masuk pun tak bolih!

QSL, first for members, then if others want to use, you MAY use it.
I think along that line, most people, would feel that if MARTS has the facility, then they should join to use. Even if MARTS repeaters, do not have users, at least, as a member we KNOW that we HAVE THE FACILITIES. However, having said that, if other HAMS want to use it they are welcomed....only to use, for a while. If they want to talk randfather story, then its a different story altogether. If memory serves, me right, every 'old ham' who are no longer members, because, of so and so, were all once members. They choose to contribute, so if we do pay attention, they still have a soft wpot for MARTS. Which is why, I preach, do not look at the individual, as he is NOT MARTS. Look at the society in the whole, and e proud to be a part of it, as it is the premier society in our country, recognised internationally.
Since the past year, MARTS membership has grown, to about 500 members, from previously 400 odd. Continue to help the society, and stop condemning it.
We look forward to a more active Society . . .

Tony,
You are sensible this time.
Let the non members use the repeaters. At the same time give them the application form. The ex members still have a soft spot for MARTS.MARTS is like a baby they brought up all these years with care. They treasure it very much and they were proud to be members. They look forward to attend AGM every year to renew acquaintance,
Unfortunately, they lost faith in
MARTS few years ago. They were once the pillar of MARTS. It is our duty to bring these people back.
Talk to them, invite them, appreciate their past contributions. They are also human beings, with the right approach,we can win them. What happened to the 50 years anniversary of MARTS which was planned years ago. MARTS missed the golden opportunity.
500 is not a big figure, bearing mind the total ham population is almost 2000.Membership drive is most important.Regular newsletter is another plus point...
MARTS have a lot of money compared to other societies....use it for members..the interest accumulated is chicken feed.Dont let the bank
roll our money. Many more comments from me but will keep it for the next show.
Tired and Retired
By Anonymous, at 9:27 PM
I fully agree with tired and retired. MARTS has to examine itself. What went wrong in the last 5 years.Who did the wrong, why was it done. How can we rctify the problem and make sure it does not repeat. We dont need a Royal Commission.Get a few senior non members,
have an open discussion, listen to them identify the factors that kept them away from MARTS.They will expose the bad hats.
I am sure MARTS will progress well after that
Good Luck and nothing like trying.

let's not talk about MARTS. let's make a comparison. look at our neighbours. they are so proud of their repeaters, they have a club house to congregate and with pride announce it over the air that they are going there, they got so much comradeship (always fighting to buy 'goreng pisang' and all makan makan for the club house and even have various colours to their club shirts. what has Marts got todate? no club shirt, no club house what more no goreng pisang. our neighbours RAE classes is well organized and MARTS, classes ada tak ada pun not sure. so what are we talking about society, association and all. basic fundamentals that were mentioned pun tak ada, what more about helping members? as i am typing this - membership card pun never sent to me and they already 'ciau' my RM 50.
if MARTS can also help non-members, then we set up our own club with all these facilities and continue using their repeaters. if they don't let and want to bitch we all join our neighbours. better harmony. agreed?
no membership card man
By Anonymous, at 3:17 PM
If anybody bought goreng pisang with your RM50 >:) That is bad...
By Anonymous, at 4:56 PM
Hey, good for them. Their comradeship is envied.
However, our house is now taking shape. The council is working, albeit not everyone...
why? Because the members that did attend the meeting had decided to do so.and voted them in.
There is a process.
If you want it to change for the better, come say your piece when it matters.
SHow up in the most important meeting of the society, i.e AGM and vote for the people who have a plan, not my friend not your friend, not his friend, not because he is senior, not because he is a founding member...etc. Look at how he or she can contribute!
Yes, acknowledgement is required, to acknowledge and appreciate what the others have done. So acknowledging them and crediting them should always be there, such as founding members.
Witchhunt? We don't need that. It doesn't solve anything? to use Non members? They are not even members, what makes you think they have the interest of our society at heart?
If each and every one do their part, then we wouldn't be so dependant on the other. . .
As it is, with the appointment of the Regional reps, a pattern has emerged, in regions becoming more active. No! We are not trying to outdo one another, but merely to exist as a group with common interest.
If we feel that the government is not doing a good job, do we say, let's not pay taxes?
Think about it . . .
By Anonymous, at 7:47 PM
MARTS cannot be compared with ASTRA or MARES.They are regionally based whereas MARTS is not.The commitments of MARES and ASTRA are exlempary. They are poor in term of finance but rich in comradeship.See how ASTRA members drive from the North to Ledang, Ulu Kali to service their repeaters at their own cost...not paid by Astra.Purely volunteering.
They dont fight for posts as MARTS members do.Maybe they will fight when their societies get rich later. They have mutual respect. For once I agree with Tony that we
coexist for mutual interest. I noticed that KL MARTS members are somehow anti MARES but not ASTRA.
This is not healthy.Dont envy what others have or do.Dont have that superiority complex, just because MARTS is 52 years old, therefore they are premier.Join forces together force MCMC to abolish RM 60.00 for processing fee. Abolish the Annual fee. Americans dont pay anything.Reduce speed or abolish CW test.Ask MCMC to sponsor programmes of Amateur radio promotions.9W do not need 50 MHZ
band , give them 3.5 7.00Mhz...more useful. Instead of doing these things you fellows are
fighting why the address of MARTS is P.O. Box 13 instead of 10777.
Query why accounts are not put in the right column.Go and make police report after the AGM.Dont be provoked by people who have ulterior motives. They are clapping hands in the background.

"If we feel that the government is not doing a good job, do we say, let's not pay taxes?"
- people can easily quit MARTS & jump to another "government" :)
So those members must exercise their right in such "government",
where/which ever they might be.
Good luck to MARTS & its
active & sleeping members.

Hi,
I still think there is opportunity to excel the society, but the main crux is still communication. The repeater linking project is one that is supposed to live up our expectations, so what I sincerely hope is that there will be constant activities on the repeaters - like regular 2m net to check in all stations.
Since this is a technical forum, I like to suggest to the council or rep. (as they call it) to run a 2m technical net to exchange information or do technical quizzes.
Then again, I also have problem to get checked-in onto nets. I know for a fact that its a great past time activity for MARTS President 9M2KT to conduct the net controller of 40m - Kudos... time to start something for 2m next.

Hello Tuan Suchart,
You need a bit more exposure in amateur radio. The term OM does not
mean that person is old.A spinster ham is called YL, she need not be 18 years old.She may be 60.OM means a male ham. Please brush up your CW and get a 9M callsign or at least listen on the HF band. You will be wiser then.
I am OM
By Anonymous, at 8:01 PM
I noticed many hams in Malaysia used the wrong jargon. One glaring example is "jalopy". I heard people say canopy, chalopy God knows what else.Dont simply parrot someone. If you dont know just say car or kereta. We are copying too many things without knowing their origin.Visit this website www.AC6v.com then you will know OM means friendship, friend, pal or buddy. So OM Suchart does not mean Suchart is old.At least he is young at heart, hi hi
